Due to listeria, manufacturer VIP Sales Italian Food Products GmbH is recalling Gorgonzola cheese. It affects “K-Favourites Gorgonzola DOP mild 200g” with an expiry date of April 10, 2023, the company announced.

The affected gorgonzola was sold in the Kaufland supermarket chain in Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland. The reason for the recall is the detection of the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes. The company does not recommend the use of gorgonzola due to potential health risks.

influenza-like illness

Listeria is a bacteria that can cause a flu-like illness with symptoms such as diarrhea and fever. This usually happens within 14 days. Especially pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems can develop more severe diseases with blood contamination and meningitis. According to the manufacturer, pregnant women who have eaten the tainted cheese should seek medical attention, even if they have no symptoms.

The buyer can return the affected cheese to any Kaufland branch and get a refund.
