Updated Jeep Wrangler 2024 model year
Smaller grill, bigger screen
Jeep is comprehensively updating the Wrangler for the 2024 model year. Optical retouching is limited, but there’s a lot going on in the interior.
At the International Auto Show in New York (which runs until April 16), Jeep presents the extensively redesigned Wrangler. From the outside, the facelift remains unobtrusive: the off-road classic received a new radiator grille, the seven longitudinal pillars of which are slightly lower than before. Another optical detail remains invisible: instead of a fixed steel antenna, a “stealth” analogue is now built into the windshield. Jeep is also introducing ten new wheel designs ranging from 17 to 20 inches. There’s also a new standard premium soft top and a new “Anvil” blue-gray exterior color.
Inside, the Stellantis brand infuses its classic SUV with new soft-touch fabric or polyurethane surfaces with contrasting accent stitching on the dashboard. However, the highlight of the interior is the new 12.3-inch touchscreen in the center – the largest display ever offered in a Wrangler. Here, the driver controls the Uconnect 5 infotainment system with the Android operating system and the ability to update over the air. Smartphones can be integrated wirelessly not only through Android Auto, but also through Apple Carplay. The new map material offers off-road guides, which should make off-road trips easier. At the factory, it stocks 62 routes certified by the brand community as Jeep-worthy. A catalog of more than 3,000 (!) demanding undergrowth routes is available on request.
The new rear axle improves off-road handling
To ensure that the new Jeep Wrangler continues to improve in terms of off-road mobility, Rubicon models feature a floating rear axle for the first time. The Dana Specialist Model 44 HD features a 100:1 gear ratio track drive with a payload capacity increased to nearly 2.3 tons. In addition, larger wheels can be put on the Wrangler in a simple way, which can provide advantages off-road.
If you opt for the Willys trim, you’ll benefit from a standard limited-slip differential on the rear axle and 33 instead of 32-inch off-road tires. The new Wrangler Rubicon X is even tougher with its 35-inch BF Goodrich off-road tires, off-road camera and steel bumpers. All Rubicon versions are also available with a Warn front winch that tows more than 3.6 tonnes.
Better features and security
In the rather luxuriously equipped high-end variant, Jeep has trimmed the standard equipment. Among other things, it will have heated and electrically adjustable front seats, a sunroof, a front-facing camera and nappa leather seats, which may optionally be available in the new interior color Mantis Green. And in the future, Jeep will offer the PHEV Wrangler 4xe in a suitably positioned Sport S variant. It also has a new power box with 120-volt outlets, and up to four external devices can be powered.
Jeep improves the Wrangler’s passive safety by adding standard side airbags in the first and second rows, as well as seat belts with pretensioners and force limiters in the outboard rear seats. Active electronic components such as cruise control with stop function, collision warning, blind spot warning and cross traffic warning, park assist system or a reversing camera are standard depending on the equipment line or cost extra.
Famous discs
Everything remains the same with the disc portfolio. The entry-level options in the US are two gasoline models with a two-liter four-cylinder turbo engine (274 hp and a maximum of 400 Nm) and a 3.6-liter naturally aspirated V6 engine (264 hp and a maximum of 353 Nm). ). Above it – plug-in hybrid Wrangler with the abbreviation 4xe. A two-liter turbo, two electric motors and a 17-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery with 400-volt technology provide a total of 381 hp. and up to 637 newton meters. The top engine is still the 6.4-liter V8 with a capacity of 477 hp, as well as a maximum of 637 Nm. In almost all cases, the standard transmission is an eight-speed automatic. Only the V6 petrol engine comes standard with a six-speed manual gearbox.
Jeep offers the new Wrangler in eight model versions: Sport, Sport S, Willys, Sahara, High Altitude, Rubicon, Rubicon X and Rubicon 392. In the US, the SUV can be ordered immediately at undisclosed prices; as the year progresses, the first cars arrive at local dealers. Jeep has yet to say when the facelifted version will arrive in Europe.
